What is Mood Disturbances?
Mood Disturbances
Humans are complex and oftentimes, terms including depression or anxiety may not adequately capture our feelings. At times, unique personality may also contribute towards mood disturbances, in addition to prior exposures to trauma and psychological issues. Although skills can be taught to better regulate mood, very often traditional approaches to therapy that are linear may not be helpful. When working with mood concerns, it is important to examine a wholistic perspective, including accounting your experiences, personality, and family systems.
Due to the complexities of human personality, it is common that an issue being treated may not fully capture the immediate experiences. As a result, clients are often left feeling confused about their feelings, how they behave towards them, and their behaviour as a result those feelings. As mood and personality complexities manifest, people around you may consider you ‘moody’ or features you as having a concerning personality. In the absence of appropriate psychosocial interventions, spontaneous initiations triggered by an emotion may occur, equally in inhibitory behaviors.
